Preparing your first tech pack (or starting without one)

What a tech pack is for

A tech pack is a document that describes a garment precisely enough for someone else to make it: measurements, construction, fabric, trims, logo placement and packaging. Its job is to remove guessing between you and the factory.

If you already have one, send it — it makes the first quotation faster and the first piece closer to what you have in mind. If you do not, that is normal for a founder's first product, and it does not stop you starting.

If you do not have a tech pack, send this instead

Those six items are enough for a real quotation and a development piece. Anything technical we still need, we work through with you before making it.

• A reference: a garment you own, a photo, or a sketch with notes on what you like about it
• Your size range and which market you are selling into
• Fabric direction if you have one — otherwise describe the feel you want
• Logo artwork and where you want it placed
• Packaging requirements: poly bag, hang tag, barcode, or plain
• Your target launch date and the quantity you have in mind

Revisions and your launch date

The most common reason a first order slips is not production — it is a change made after the piece was approved. Measurements are the biggest single source: shifting a waist height or leg length slightly changes the pattern and the grading.

Approve the development piece deliberately. Check it against your own body or your fit model, in the light you photograph in, and list every change in one round rather than five messages over a week. Every additional development round moves your date.
